This year the Smith Institute will allocate two Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), industrial CASE (iCASE) awards to companies to support postgraduate researchers working on new projects in industrial mathematics.

Each project is a four-year partnership between a company and university, leading to the completion of the applicant’s PhD. Not limited to any sector, iCASE is an opportunity for companies to take the lead in defining and arranging a project with an academic partner of their choice whilst providing a platform for students to develop their research in an industrial setting.

With a required scientific focus in some branch of the mathematical sciences, the developmental nature of projects allocated to a UK company with research or commercial production capability and university are mutually beneficial.
