About the Role

The Smith Institute would like to appoint a friendly and approachable IT Apprentice to support the IT & QA Manager in a rapidly evolving IT environment. The successful candidate will work towards a BSc (Honours) Degree in Digital and Technology Solutions (Level 6) through the Open University’s Digital and Technology Solutions Professional Degree Apprenticeship Programme, specialising in Cyber Security. In addition, the successful candidate will be encouraged and given time to work towards other professional certifications, such as AWS Certification.

You will work with cutting-edge cloud technologies to maintain and update the IT systems your colleagues rely on for efficient and uninterrupted work. Based at home and in our Oxford office, you will use remote access tools to support your colleagues built mainly on Microsoft Teams and Amazon Web Services.

We wish to hear from applicants that are proficient computers users and have a good understanding of computer hardware and software, including memory and storage, the fundamentals of computer networks and the fundamentals of cyber security. You need to be an analytical, creative problems solver, with some knowledge of algorithms and programming. You will need to be able to demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills and be well-organised. Any previous hands-on technical experience (hardware or software)whether at home, school or in a club would be very beneficial. You will probably have three ‘A’ levels, including maths, but other qualifications and / or experience may be acceptable.

The role is a dynamic mix of home and office-based working and you must be in easy reach of our Oxford-based office. Candidates must also be eligible to work in the UK and have been resident in the UK for the past 5 years.
