    Marketing Assistant

    Miss Holly Gurr joined the Smith Institute in March 2017.

    Holly leads on the Institute's social media presence. Working with the wider team, Holly produces marketing materials for the Institute. She supports the organisation of the annual Take AIM competition, events, lectures and workshops.

    She ended her career as a synchronised swimmer before attending The University of Winchester to read English Literature. Upon graduating Holly worked as a journalist, writing articles on travel and lifestyle, all the while continuing her passion teaching swimming to children.

  • Nigel Marsh

    IT Officer

    Nigel joined the Smith Institute in March 2017 in the role of IT Officer, supporting hardware and software management and all things IT.

    Nigel has a BA in English and Philsophy from the University of Wales and a PGCE from the University of Bristol, specialising in English and English as a Foreign Language. He has worked in many diverse jobs, including teaching English in Germany, designing school computer systems and running an IT support company.

    Outside work, Nigel enjoys listening to birdsong as he runs through the Oxfordshire countryside, playing the tuba with a local brass band, reading lots and going to the theatre.
  • Mr David Miller

    Finance Director

    Mr David Miller supports the Director in the financial management of the Institute and was appointed to Council in May 2014.

    He is a Chartered Accountant with extensive experience in the smaller business sector and expanding operations. David qualified with Ernst & Young and then moved to Gillette, rising to Finance Controller in one of the UK divisions. He then gained sales, marketing and finance experience in the manufacturing sector in the USA before joining a Management buy-in buy-out team.

    David is currently self-employed and is focused on assisting growing companies expand in a careful and controlled manner.

    Mrs Gillian Hoyle supports the Institute's staff from our administrative office in Guildford.

    She has been the Administrator of the Smith Institute since it was established in 1997.

    Before joining the Smith Institute, Gillian was PA to the Chairman of Smith System Engineering for ten years. Gillian acts as a liaison between the Council, the Smith Institute staff and the Scientific Board. She ensures the smooth running of the Smith Institute and is the first point of contact for new enquiries.

  • Mrs Judy Reynolds

    Marketing and Events Manager

    Mrs Judy Reynolds joined the Institute in 2010.

    Judy manages the Institute's events which include showcases featuring guest speakers, collaborative workshops and private dinners. She leads on the Institute's marketing strategy and activity and organises the annual TakeAIM competition, providing an opportunity for university students to demonstrate the impact of their research to a wide academic and commercial audience.

    Outside of work, Judy enjoys walking in the beautiful countryside where she lives, baking and enticing her children into the great outdoors!
