The Smith Institute for Industrial Mathematics and System Engineering enables companies to improve their products, processes, services and business strategy through the application of cutting-edge mathematical thinking.

The Institute is an independent company, established in 1997. We undertake a balanced mix of commercial work and grant-funded work in the public and private sectors. Our focus is on applying powerful techniques in ways that deliver a rapid competitive edge to our clients and partners. We work closely with companies to understand their requirements and then use mathematics to bring fresh results and insights that can be rapidly embedded in the wider business environment. Based at the Surrey Technology Centre in Guildford, we provide a national coverage through a team of experienced Technology Translators and through our links with more than 40 leading university research groups.
